Wheres our flower necklace

Where’s Our Flower Necklaces?

The flower necklaces keeps missing! Who has been taking them?

Once upon a time, there was a family of squirrels who lived on the mountain treetop. When spring came, the squirrel family would be busy picking and storing food to prepare for winter. There would be lots of colourful flowers, red, yellow or blue and occasionally, safflowers too.

Mother squirrel would weave threads from the coconut husk while the family would string the tiny flowers into a lovely flower necklace and hang them at the door to decorate the house. The sweet scent from the flowers would linger around when the wind blows, and the family loved it.

One day, a magpie flew past the house and was attracted by the fragrance from the flowers. When he followed the scent, he came to the house decorated with stunning and unique flowers necklaces.

“What gorgeous flower necklaces! It will be a waste if no one wears them!” He exclaimed. The magpie hopped around to choose which necklace would look good on him. “This one will suit me very well!” he beamed and took a flower necklace away. Everywhere the magpie went, the flower necklace attracted lots of attention. They looked so gorgeous and smelled heavenly that the other birds started to follow what the magpie did. They, too, went to the squirrel’s house and took their flower necklaces.

Soon, the flower necklaces slowly disappeared. When the squirrel family noticed that the flower necklaces seemed to be getting lesser, they became upset. “Who has been stealing our flower necklaces?” They cried. “Let’s put up a sign that says ‘Stop Stealing’ on our door!” the squirrels decided after discussing.

A few days later, the magpie came back to the squirrel house, thinking to change another flower necklace as the flowers on the necklace she wore had turned a little dull. When she saw the sign at the door, she felt terrible. She realised that she had been a bad example to all the other friends, as they took her advice and went ahead to take the flower necklace without permission from the squirrel family.  After thinking, she decided to make it up to the squirrels.

Swiftly, she flew around the forest to pick up lots of colourful, succulent fruits. There were all types of varieties, from grapes, cherries to berries. The magpie picked up a lot of fruits. The magpie then strung the fruits into small necklaces just like how the flower necklaces were made and hung them at the squirrel’s house. The fruit necklaces made the home very lovely.

When the squirrel went home, they were surprised to see the pretty fruit necklaces. They were stunning. There would be fragrance from the fruits when the wind blew, and the squirrel family loves them. Hastily, they put up a big “Thank You For The Fruit Necklace” sign at the door. When magpie saw it, she was delighted.

During winter, the fruits on the fruit necklace dried up. The squirrel would hang the fruit necklace around their neck and snack on them while watching the snow from their window. The fruit necklace became handy for them.

Finally spring comes again. The squirrel family collect flowers and make flower necklaces again. In exchange, the magpie would collect fruits in exchange for the flower necklace. Everyone was happy with the arrangement as they got what they wanted!
