Our House On Fire!

General Knowledge Short Stories

The three little piglets’ house is on fire! What should they do!

In the beautiful forest, lived a happy family of mother pig and her three piglets.

“Children, I want to go and visit Grandma. The three of you will wait for me to be back. Do make sure you don’t mess up the house.” Mother Pig said to the three little pigs.

“Don’t worry mom, leave it to us. We will take good care of our house,” the three piglets said in unison.

“Alright good children. See you later when I’m back!” mother pig said, as she wave them goodbye.

When mother pig closed the door behind her, the three piglets looked at each other and exclaimed,

“Yeah! It is party time!”

They played card games, hide and seek and catch in the house. It was so much fun! Soon, the sun is starting to set and the house was getting a little darker.

The three piglets began feeling bored with the games they were playing. “Let’s find something interesting to play!” one of the piglets said.

“Let’s use candles to light up the whole house! It will be beautiful!” another piglet said.

Immediately, they went to search all around the house and found a lighter with a box of candles. They began lighting up many candles and putting them around the different corners of the house.

“Wow, look at how wonderful our house looks now.” The three piglets smiled as they admired the glowing house of candles.

As they stayed in their beds admiring the candle-lit house, their eyelids started feeling heavy. The three piglets started yawning one after another. Slowly, they fell asleep.

The candles were getting shorter and shorter, until only a small section remained. The piglets completely forgotten about the burning candles. Unfortunately, the short candles fell on the ground and the curtain near the burning wick caught fire.

The fire got bigger and bigger as it continued spreading.

The strong smell of smoke woke one of the piglets up. He rubbed his eyes for awhile and suddenly realised what was happening.

“Ah! Wake up, wake up! Our house is on fire!” the piglet screamed while shaking the other two piglets to wake them.

The fire burned the tables and chairs, then the curtains and cabinets, and then the piggy’s belongings caught fire and huge fumes of black smoke rose.

“Help!” screamed the terrified piglets. Help!”

By then the burning smoke and fumes have made the piglets’ eyes so uncomfortable, they were having difficulty opening their eyes and even breathing!

One of the piglets then remembered what their mother had said: “If there is a fire, we must call the fire alarm number, and the firefighter Uncle Elephant will help us.”

The piglets wasted no more time and dialled the number and said “Is that Uncle Elephant? I’m piglet, and my house is on fire. Please save us!”

“Where do you live?” Uncle Elephant inquired.

“Treetop hill unit number three on mud road.”

“Don’t panic. Cover your nose with a wet towel, bend down, and try rushing out of the house if you can. I’ll be right there!”

The piglets followed firefighter’s instructions and tried to run out of their house with a wet towel. Eventually they managed to head out of the house without getting hurt.

When the fire truck arrived, the piglets had just escape from the burning house.

“Look at the piglets’ clothes, they’re on fire!” someone said.

“Quickly, lie on the ground and roll a few times!” exclaimed Uncle Elephant.

The piglets did as the elephant uncle instructed, and the fire was quickly extinguished. However, there is still a large fire in the piglet’s house! Uncle Elephant quickly took the fire extinguisher and also took buckets of water to extinguish the fire.

The fire in the piggy’s house was put out one by one. The piglets were heartbroken as they looked at their dirty bodies, faces, and then at their homes.

“Children, why is your house on fire?” Uncle Elephant inquired.

“We forgot to blow out the candle.” The Piglet admitted with guilt.

“The small lighters and candles may seem harmless, but small flames can also cause big fires. The big fire can spread to become huge fire which will burn down the house, and even the beautiful big forest,” Uncle Elephant said.

“Uncle Elephant, thank you for saving us!” said the three little pigs. We will never play with fire again.”
