Children Stories on Self-Confidence

Will Hanna look pretty without earrings after all?

The little chick, Hanna, went to the departmental store to purchase some presents for tomorrow’s birthday party. “I should buy something lovely for myself so that I may doll myself up for the birthday party.” She thought. Once in the store, she went to try on many flora hair bands, sunglasses, and hair pins that they had available.

After spending significant time there, she finally left the department store with a rainbow-printed scarf and a floral skirt. As she was ready to exit the store, something glistening caught her eye, and she stopped briefly to examine it. It turned out to be a lovely pair of earrings. Hanna was drawn in by the glimmering sparkle emanating from the earrings, and she considered making a purchase.

“If I wear it, I’m going to look stunning.” Hanna imagined. Without giving it any further thought, she bought the earrings. On the way back to her house, she had a chance encounter with Monty, the cheeky monkey. Hanna enthusiastically opened her bag. “Monty! Come and look at the things I purchased at the department store. Doesn’t it look lovely?” Hanna asked, as she hastily retrieved her belongings to display them for Monty.

After carefully examining the patterns on the scarf and skirt, Monty gave a slight nod. He responded, “They do look great.” Monty replied. Just then, Hanna proudly brought out the pair of earrings she was delighted with and said, “How about these wonderful earrings? Wouldn’t that look great on me?” She flashed a grin.

After a brief pause, Monty’s expression changed to amusement, and he burst out laughing.

Hanna gave a displeased scowl and asked, “What’s so funny?”

“Give some thought to that. How do you plan to wear those earrings? Do you even have ears?” Monty retorted while pointing to his ears and looking intently at Hanna. He continued asking, “Where are your ears?”

Hanna was unable to respond to Monty, so she remained silent. Monty started laughing at her and exclaimed, “HA! HA! Buy earrings without ears! He let out a hearty chuckle before running away.

Hanna sprinted back to her house in tears. “Mummy, why don’t I have ears?” she asked.

The mother hen laughed and said, “Silly child. How are we supposed to hear if we don’t have ears?”

Hanna was perplexed since what her mother said made perfect sense. Her question was, “Where do our ears develop?”

“Take a look at mummy. What do you see right beside the corner of my eyes? The chick’s mother asks.

“There’s a teeny tiny hole here,” Hanna replied.

“Precisely in that spot is where our ears are. It is concealed by our feathers, preventing raindrops from entering our ears and shielding them from dust simultaneously. ” Mother hen explained.

Hanna leapt in joy and exclaimed, “Wow, that’s amazing!”

After thinking, she became more concerned and asked, “How do I wear earrings?”

The hen’s mother responded, “We don’t only need earrings to look beautiful. We can always wear necklaces and scarves. That can make us pretty too! In fact, we are beautiful in our own ways.”

Hanna nodded. She made a second trip to the shop to purchase a stunning necklace in exchange for the earrings. Along the way, she ran across Monty once more.

She exclaimed, “My ears are in a mysterious place. You shall never know where.” After that, she strutted off with her head held high.
